Saturday SeminarsSaturday Seminars are offered at two times during the regular school year, fall/winter and spring. The areas of inquiry offered vary from session to session, depending upon staff interests, expertise, and availability. Seminar offerings may be for full days or half days and extend one, two, or three Saturdays. Time frames are chosen with attention to the content and activities specific to the area of inquiry. Seminar information will be posted on this page; however, if you are interested in receiving details as soon as they are available, please call or email The Center with your mailing information and we will add you to our mailing list and send you a brochure. The Wisconsin center for Gifted Learners Developing Dimensions Program invites you to consider the following learning opportunities. Two seminars will be presented on March 10, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Javanese Art – Batik Do you enjoy creating with your hands? Do ancient art forms interest you? Is the exotic tropical island of Java and its culture intriguing to you? Join us to experience the time honored art of Javanese Batik. We will learn about Javanese culture as we carefully create. Working from original sketches, we will use charcoal, parrafin and beeswax, tjantings, and dyes to create a work that is new and original, yet rooted in a tradition that is centuries old. Curious? Bring along your ideas, imagination, and sense of intrigue. William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Why do audiences still flock to this 400 year old comedy? Let's find out as we recreate the magic of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the beginning of a Wisconsin spring. You'll be the director when we delve into a few scenes, make props, choose costumes, and light the stage. Along the way we'll also play Elizabethan games and share some snacks Shakespeare would have enjoyed. Join us for a day filled with iambic pentameters, mythical characters, and surprising transformations. Who knows? We might be transformed a little bit, too!
